From someone else, the words might seem overly formal, particularly given the conversation they had been having, but he just seems earnest about it, and it serves as an unintentional reminder that, for all that Aymeric was part of toppling the theocracy, it was never his faith in Halone that was challenged, merely his faith in men.

It is, perhaps, a bit of a shock to find him still so thoughtlessly devout, but then, isn't that really what had landed him in the Vault in the first place-- a misguided belief that the Archbishop surely still had the same faith he did?
